CEV Cup, the official list of teams registered for the 2025 edition
On Tuesday, 16 July 2024, starting at 12 noon in Luxembourg, the first official act of the 2025 CEV Cup will be celebrated; the CEV Cup is the second most important European competition, to which Trentino Volley has registered in recent weeks thanks to the fourth place finish in the Play Off Scudetto 2024.
On that date the pairings of the round of 32 of the CEV Cup draw will be drawn; unlike the Champions League, there will not be a group stage but only double rounds (first leg and second leg) with direct elimination. Thanks to Italy's excellent position in the European ranking (to which it has made an important contribution thanks to the constant yellow-blue presence on the podium in the 2021, 2022 and 2024 editions of the Champions League), Trentino Volley should be among the top seeds and therefore enjoy, at least initially, an easier path; only the official pairing will establish whether this will actually be the case and whether Fabio Soli's team will enter the game already in the round of 32 or in the round of 16.
Twenty-six teams have already signed up, to which another fifteen will be added during the preliminary stages of the 2025 CEV Champions League to be played between September and October. Among the most prominent names already sure to participate are those of well-known and competitive opponents such as Rzeszow (Poland, defending champions of the competition) and Tours (France), already met last season, but also of great traditions such as Friedrichshafen (Germany), the Turks Ankara and Galatasaray (defeated in the final in 2019, during the last yellow-blue participation in the tournament), Novi Sad (Serbia), Sastamala (Finland), Lausanne and Amriswil (Switzerland), all of whom have faced each other in previous participations in the event. As already anticipated, they will be added after the preliminary rounds of the Champions League. Eighteen nations are therefore currently involved; Austria, Belgium, France, the Czech Republic, Romania, Slovenia, Switzerland and Turkey are the only nations sure to have at least two teams in the starting line-up.
The 2025 CEV Cup will take place over six months, between 9 October 2024 (date of the first match of the round of 32) and 9 April 2025 (date of the second leg of the final). In order to pass each single round, it will be necessary to obtain the highest number of points during the double match; points will be awarded as in the championship: 3 for a 3-0 or 3-1 victory, 2 for success in the tie break, 1 for defeat in the tie break (golden set at 15 in case of a tie).
For the Club from via Trener, the participation in the 2025 CEV Cup will be the 19th overall experience in its history in a European competition, the fifth in this tournament after having previously played in the 2004/05 season (elimination in the round of 16 by Ankara), 2014/15 (second place finish behind Dinamo Moscow - victorious in the golden set), 2016/17 (second place finish behind Tours Vb - victorious in the golden set) and 2018/19, taking the final victory in that case. The overall tally of Trentino Volley in 173 CEV matches is 137 victories and 36 defeats.
